TIMUSHAN HISTORYAfter 36 years of civil war and natural disasters, the Mayan Chorti people of the region have been left with nothing; living in poverty, poor health, with very little hope for a decent future. Timushan, Guatemala, is an indigenous community in the Merendon Mountains close to the Honduran border in northeast Guatemala. The village consists of 1,400 people of whom approximately 600 are children. The Timushan Project works with a model of building structures to promote self-sustainability within the Timushan community. Reconstruction and community development are key components of this process. |
